The Nolah Mattress is a box-to-bed product that can only be purchased online. It features a new and unique material on the inside of the mattress, which aims to offer the same feeling of comfort and adaptability provided by memory foam, but without retaining too much heat while doing so.

It’s basically an improved memory foam mattress, as the foam itself was specifically created by the manufacturer to have an edge over the competition’s flaws. This substance is called Nolah AirFoam™. The way it changes shapes and adapts to pressure makes it an ideal mattress for side sleepers – perhaps the best in the market for them.

Why Should You Purchase a Nolah Mattress?

It’s Made with Innovative New Technology

You might want to try out the AirFoam™ if you’re one of those buyers who loves to test new cutting-edge technology. This new type of foam promises to be as effective as regular mattress foam, but with higher memory and better adaptability. It’s also specially manufactured to prevent the mattress from becoming too hot – hence its name.

Everlasting Quality

The AirFoam™ is a very high-quality style of fabric on its own. Regardless, the rest of the materials used to manufacture this mattress are nothing short of amazing as well. The Nolah mattress layers are designed to control airflow and keep the top of the mattress cool at all time.

Its bottom layer provides a solid base for the rest of its construction and maintains the bed in good shape for many years.

It’s Designed to Fit Most People’s Preferences

Although the design favors those people who sleep on their sides, the mattress has a level of firmness that most people should enjoy. The special foam creates a sensation like the one offered by the Puffy mattress we reviewed, but the pressure relieving features of the Nolah mattress make it an even better choice for side sleepers and combo sleepers.

This mattress is a tad firmer than others; it still provides owners a good feeling of sinkage without making them feel trapped while lying down.

Nolah Mattress – Pros & Cons of Purchasing It

The main selling point of the Nolah mattress is its unique and innovative foam. Apart from it, the mattress still offers a lot of other features that make it a great choice for sleepers of all sorts.

You’ll want to give this mattress a try if you’re a side sleeper, though – the foam manufactured by the company seems incredibly well suited to fill the gaps between your body and the Nolah mattress while lying on either side of your body. This is an important attribute for people who suffer from sore muscles while sleeping – it should significantly improve their condition.

Regardless of all the positives, there are still some negative aspects that you’ll have to deal with when purchasing one of these mattresses. Let’s take a closer look at those pros & cons before moving on:

Nolah Mattress Pros

  • The mattress doesn’t have an excessive price tag
  • One of the best cooling systems that we’ve ever seen in a mattress
  • Its innovative AirFoam™ layers are comfortable and well-designed
  • The manufacturer offers a 4-month trial period where you can return the product for free
  • Ideally designed for people who suffer from back pain while sleeping

Nolah Mattress Cons

  • The support on the edges of the mattress isn’t too good, as it tends to happen in most foam beds
  • Heavy buyers might not be entirely satisfied with their purchase. The first layer of the mattress is VERY thin!
  • The Nolah mattress doesn’t offer great support near the hip area

The Entire Nolah Mattress Construction

The Nolah mattress consists of 4 different layers, with each of them providing various characteristics to the bed. Each layer is constructed in a specific way (with particular materials) to create an overall balance and high-quality feeling to the mattress.

There’s also a special cover in place above the Nolah Mattress. It’s made of a very soft material (a combination of polyester and other soft types of fabric).

The overall construction provides the bed with a solid structure while keeping everything relatively bouncy and very comfortable

Naturally, having 4 layers placed on top of each other makes this mattress a very tall product. It stands at around 10 inches high. Keep that in mind before purchasing this product – you might want to look elsewhere if you don’t like to sleep on tall beds. From what we’ve tried, though, its average firmness makes the Nolah mattress sink enough to make it feel a bit lower when you lie on top of it.

Let’s take a closer look at all its four different layers to help you get a better idea of what each of them does:

First Layer – The Nolah Mattress Cover

On top of the first layer lies the cover of the Nolah mattress. Its viscose composition combined with polyester makes the top of this mattress as smooth as you can imagine, with great anti-liquid features to go along the comfort. In case you’re wondering, viscose is a material like cotton, but it’s crafted synthetically.

The AirFoam™ layer below the cover makes it stay cool for a long period of time.

Second Layer – The AirFoam™ Layer or Comfort Layer

This layer is specifically designed to create comfort to the user. It’s entirely made of AirFoam™, but it’s also one of the thinnest layers of the mattress. Its thinness is probably one of the few downsides of an otherwise amazing product. Heavy buyers could feel more comfortable while lying down or sitting on the edges of the Nolah mattress if the layer was a bit thicker.

This advanced foam offers owners the same sensation of contouring provided by most types of common memory foam. The AirFoam™ feels smoother when it comes to the way it deals with pressure on top of the mattress and reacts to changes faster than regular memory foam.

The Nolah mattress second layer is also the one responsible for dealing with the mattress cooling. The company’s special foam is designed to stay cool without becoming too hot. The AirFoam™ allows air to flow through the layer without any issues. It’s an ideal system put in place to avoid overheating – one of the Nolah mattress’ most defining features.

The material works incredibly well with the cover of the Nolah mattress and the heat control can be clearly felt in your skin when you lie down on top of the bed.

Third Layer – The Separation Layer

This layer is located right beneath the comfort layer to provide a division between the AirFoam™ and the foundation of the mattress. This is the part of the Nolah mattress that creates the feeling of ‘bounciness’ – a must have for any mattress.

This layer is made of a foam that aims to simulate the texture of latex. In fact, this is exactly why it’s used to produce bounciness. The material is called “Avena” and it’s also a special type of fabric that aims to mimic the basic qualities of latex but with a higher degree of quality.

This layer of the Noah mattress is also responsible for giving better responsiveness to the surface. This wouldn’t be possible if the second layer was directly connected to the first one. The Avena fabric makes a great addition to improve the overall quality of the bed.

Fourth Layer – Foundation & Support Layer

This layer provides the foundations needed for the upper layers to work their magic. It’s the thickest layer of them all, taking more than 70% of the mattress’ mass. The design and material turn this part of the mattress into a very resistant layer, capable of handling all the pressure generated at the top.

This layer of the Nolah mattress is made with an incredibly dense modification of polyfoam fabric. It responds appropriately to movements and adapts to the way the third and second layers shift in form.

Although this layer doesn’t provide comfort, it allows the upper layers to move freely whilst keeping intact the Nolah mattress’ structure.

Best Nolah Mattress Sleeping Position

The versatility offered by the AirFoam™ present in the second layer make the Nolah mattress a great product for you if you love to lie down on your sides. This foam reacts quicker to your movements than its regular counterpart, enabling you the mattress to adapt to your shape very quickly.

You can move as much as you like without having to worry about feeling uncomfortable in bed. In fact, we strongly recommend you buy this mattress if you’re often moving while you sleep – the Nolah mattress is entirely made of foam, so it generates almost no noise even if you move around often.

The Nolah mattress design favors side sleepers, but we also recommend you give it a shot if you’re a combo sleeper

We noticed that stomach sleepers tend to feel a little less comfortable. This mainly happens because you require a mattress with good hip pressure relief when you sleep with the front of your body facing your Nolah mattress.

We don’t mean to tell you that you’ll feel entirely uncomfortable if you sleep on your stomach, but the sensation won’t be as rewarding as it is in more specialized mattresses (like the Dreamcloud, for example).

Is the Nolah Mattress Firm?

Overall, you could say that the firmness of the Nolah mattress is slightly abode what you can consider average. You’ll instantly feel how you sink into the second layer of foam if you put pressure on the surface of your bed.

This mattress has three very soft layers supported by one thick bottom layer – it should match your expectations if you like your mattress to have an average firmness level

We would like you to understand that you’ll perceive the firmness very differently according to your own bodyweight. The AirFoam™ layer can sink a lot – the heavier you are, the further it will allow you to sink. Thankfully, the mattress is designed to support weight of up to 200 pounds.

As we discussed before, the firmness of the mattress isn’t too ideal if you like to sleep on your stomach. You’ll get the best out of this mattress’ comfort features if you like to sleep on your sides. The Nolah mattress is rather soft when compared with other high-quality mattresses.

Nolah Mattress Edge Support

Lying down or sitting on the edges of the bed might make the Nolah mattress feel very compressed. This also depends on your weight, but generally you might want to avoid purchasing this bed if you plan on sleeping near its edges – even more so if you sleep with a partner who takes up a lot of bed space.

We’ve seen mattresses with better edge support, but the Nolah mattress ranks among the best foam mattresses in this department

With that said, the Nolah mattress has very good edge support for a foam mattress. This is aided by the high-quality foam manufactured by the company, but it’s also helped by the fourth layers’ design. The last couple of layers are designed to work well with any sort of pressure put on top of the bed. The fourth layer plays a crucial role in achieving just that.

If you intend to use this bed to sit on its edges often, or if you tend to drift towards the edges while you sleep, you might want to look at a different product. We recommend you check out the Dreamcloud mattress.

Working Under Pressure: Nolah Mattress Weight Support

The weight support of the Nolah mattress is touted as one of the best in the market. You’ll be able to feel the support from the mattress’ third and fourth layers if you weigh over 150 pounds. Heavier people might not feel as comfortable if they’re heavy enough to sink to the fourth layer, though. We strongly recommend this mattress to you if you weigh less than 200 pounds.

This mattress will provide you with more than enough comfort and pressure relief if you weigh less than 200 pounds and don’t like to sleep on your stomach

As we mentioned above, there isn’t as much pressure relief near the hip area of your body as you would hope. Regardless, your shoulders and neck should feel better than ever while lying down on the Nolah mattress.

We noticed how the support and pressure relief don’t feel as good when you lie down on your stomach. Once again, we’d like you to know that stomach sleepers might end up dissatisfied if they choose to purchase a Nolah mattress.

Movement Handling: Nolah Mattress Motion Transfer

The motion transfer features offered by the Nolah mattress are nothing short of extraordinary. You can barely feel the movement of your partner if they get out of bed. This mattress might be exactly what you’re looking for if you have a partner that tends to move around a lot.

Your sleeping partner is highly unlikely to notice your movements – it doesn’t matter if you move around a lot or if you like to get up in the middle of the night

Again, this feature exists thanks to the quality foam used to manufacture the second layer of the bed. The AirFoam™ only moves in the area where pressure is applied, which means your body movement will dictate the shape that the mattress will take. The rest of the bed will remain still.

A lack of an internal spring system also means that you can move quietly on top of the bed. You don’t have to worry about producing any sort of noise while you’re sleeping on the bed. The Nolah mattress perfect for kids who love to jump on mattresses!

Nolah Mattress Price & Facts

The Nolah mattress comes in a wide variety of sizes. Each size comes with its own price tag, but generally the Nolah mattresses are a tad below the market value of other high-quality, deluxe products. You can get your own mattress for a price as low as $545 (Twin size) or as high as $1069 (Cal King size).

You’ll be granted a 120-night trial with your purchase, with means you can return the product for free if you’re dissatisfied with the way it feels.

The company also offers to cover any transportation fees when buying one of their mattresses (as long as you live in the US). As an added bonus, Nolah will donate some of your money to save an endangered animal species – they’re partnered with the Defenders of Wildlife organization.

Our Final Verdict

The Nolah mattress is one of the best foam mattresses we’ve tried so far. The high-quality AirFoam™ built into the second layer of the mattress can provide extreme comfort to all sorts of sleepers. The design does favor people who sleep lying on their sides, but it can almost guarantee comfort to sleepers of all sorts.

You may want to avoid purchasing it if you sleep solely on your stomach, though. It’s not that uncomfortable, but we’ve reviewed other mattresses that will serve you better for this purpose.
